This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The verse lets distress and alignment coexist: being pressed by what surrounds you does not make it your nature.

Being surrounded by what is lawless can press on you without making you the same as it. The verse holds alignment and distress together: you can recognize what corrodes you and feel its weight without that pressure becoming your nature. Deliverance meets the pressure as a real condition and brings you out from under it.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie is that being disturbed by corrupt conduct means you have already become corrupt, or that feeling its pressure cancels your alignment.

ἐρρύσατο

errysato from rhýomai

GROWS FROM

⁨ῥυ⁩ (rhy-, the verbal stem of ⁨ῥύομαι⁩)

Rescue or deliver from danger.

The verb ⁨ἐρρύσατο⁩ (errysato, “delivered”) names rescue while keeping the distress around Lot visible. Its related forms show the same word family speaking as a plea for deliverance and as confidence in deliverance.

ALSO GROWS

rhysai: “Deliver!”, an imperative form of ⁨ῥύομαι⁩ (rhýomai), used in Matthew 6:13.

ῥῦσαι

The plea uses the same rescue word as this verse’s account of Lot being delivered.

rhýsetai: “Will deliver”, a future form of ⁨ῥύομαι⁩ (rhýomai), used in 2 Timothy 4:18.

ῥύσεται

This form echoes the verse’s rescue in a statement of deliverance from harmful work.

δίκαιον

dikaion

GROWS FROM

δικ

dik-

Right, just, what is in right order.

The Greek ⁨δίκαιον⁩ (dikaion, “just”) belongs to the same word family as ⁨δικαιοσύνη⁩ (dikaiosynē, “alignment”). The verse places Lot’s alignment beside his distress: pressure does not erase the name the verse gives him.

ALSO GROWS

dikaiosynē: “Alignment,” also rendered “righteousness.”

δικαιοσύνη

This related form makes the alignment within “just” more visible.

dikē: “Justice” or “right.”

δίκη

This branch shows the shared concern with what is right in the word family.

ἀναστροφή

anastrophē

GROWS FROM

⁨στρεφ⁩/⁨στροφ⁩ (strep/stroph)

Turn or turn around; in this word family, manner of life or conduct.

“conversation” in this verse is anastrophē. The Greek ⁨ἀναστροφή⁩ (anastrophē, “conduct”) names a way of life, not merely speech. Its turning-shaped word family gives conduct a sense of how a life turns and is carried among others.

ALSO GROWS

anastrephō: “Turn around” or “conduct oneself.”

ἀναστρέφω

This related verb shows how a turning word can name someone’s way of life.

epistrephō: “Turn toward” or “return.”

ἐπιστρέφω

Its shared ⁨στρεφ-⁩ stem keeps the movement image audible beneath the word for conduct.

Deliverance answers oppressive conditions by bringing those under their pressure out from their grip.

And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
Exodus 3:8 · KJVDeliverance brings people out from under an oppressive power and toward a wider place.
The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
Psalm 34:17 · KJVThe verse joins distress with being heard and brought out of trouble.
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
2 Timothy 4:18 · KJVDeliverance carries the same movement away from what harms and toward what preserves.
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
2 Timothy 4:18 · KJV

The Greek verb ⁨ἐρρύσατο⁩ (errysato, “delivered”) here and ⁨ῥύσεται⁩ (rhýsetai, “will deliver”) there come from the same root family, ⁨ῥύομαι⁩ (rhýomai, “rescue, deliver”). The echo links Lot’s rescue with deliverance from harmful work while leaving the surrounding pressure fully in view.
