THE KEY
Peter’s entrance and the crowd’s assembly are both forms of the Greek verb “to come”: one moves inward, the other toward one another.
THE MEANING
The encounter meets you where arrival and gathering overlap. You may be entering a conversation already held within a larger circle of people. The personal exchange and the many-person assembly occupy the same moment.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
A conversation is not always only between two people; the person you meet may already be surrounded by a gathered community.
THE ROOT
συνεληλυθότας
synelēlythotas
GROWS FROM
ἔρχομαι
erchomai
to come, go, or arrive
“gathered” in this verse is synelēlythotas. The KJV gives went in and come together different verbal shapes, but both carry ἔρχομαι, to come. Their prefixes turn that shared motion inward or toward others, making Peter’s entrance and the crowd’s assembly two directions of the same movement.
ALSO GROWS
eiserchomai: to enter, come in
εἰσέρχομαι
This is the verb behind went in in the same verse; its shared root with the crowd’s assembly links Peter’s arrival to their coming together.
synerchomai: to come together, assemble
συνέρχομαι
This is the verb behind were come together; its συν- prefix marks movement into company.
THE PATTERN
A gathering creates shared space where encounter becomes possible.
A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.THE THREAD
For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.Come together uses the same verb family, συνέρχομαι, as the gathered group in Acts. The shared root names the assembly itself, whether its members are many in one house or divided among themselves, so gathering does not guarantee harmony.
