This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The verse lets one person be named both by where they come from and by the way they came to belong.

A person’s origin and the way they enter a community can both remain true at once. Distance does not erase belonging, and belonging does not erase where someone comes from.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It loosens the belief that belonging is valid only when inherited by birth; the verse names those who have come toward the community alongside those born within it.

προσήλυτοι

prosēlytoi

GROWS FROM

⁨ἐρχ-⁩ / ⁨ἐλθ-⁩ (erch- / elth-)

to come, go, or arrive

“proselytes” in this verse is prosēlytoi. The word names a person through movement: someone who has come toward and joined. English can make “proselyte” sound like a static category, while its verbal family keeps the approach alive, the line holds belonging as a path.

ALSO GROWS

erchomai: come, go

ἔρχομαι

The basic verb names the movement that the word for proselyte carries.

proserchomai: come toward, approach

προσέρχομαι

This compound makes the direction explicit: the proselyte is one who has come toward a community.

People are gathered across origins and affiliations while the names that distinguish them remain visible.

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 12:3 · KJVThe promise extends beyond one family, holding the wider human world within its reach.
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
Acts 10:35 · KJVThe verse names acceptance across every nation, not within a single origin.
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
Revelation 7:9 · KJVThe multitude remains named by nations, peoples, and tongues even as it stands together.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Matthew 23:15 · KJV

Matthew uses the same word, ⁨προσήλυτον⁩ (prosēlyton), “a proselyte, one who has come toward,” in a warning about how someone brought into a community can be shaped. That sharper use makes the label here concrete: it names a crossing into belonging, with real consequences.
