What Does Acts 5:7 Mean in the King James?
And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

THE KEY
The Greek links her not knowing with the next verse’s “behold”: what she cannot see is already at the door.
THE MEANING
You can enter a situation after something decisive has happened and still not know it. The situation is already changed; your lack of awareness does not make it less real. The verse measures that gap at about three hours.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
Not knowing what has happened does not mean nothing has happened; reality does not wait for awareness to catch up.
THE ROOT
εἰδυῖα
eidyia
GROWS FROM
ἰδ- (historically ϝιδ-)
See, perceive; from seeing, know.
The Greek word translated “knowing” belongs to the same seeing-root that appears in “behold” in the next verse. English separates knowledge from sight, while the Greek brings them close: she does not perceive what has happened, and then she is confronted with what can be seen.
ALSO GROWS
eidon: saw
εἶδον
The related verb makes the root’s connection between seeing and knowing plain.
idou: behold; look
ἰδού
This is the word used in verse 9, when what she did not know is pointed out to her.
eidos: form; appearance
εἶδος
It names what is seen, extending the same root from perception to visible form.
τὸ γεγονός
to gegonos
GROWS FROM
γεν-/γιν-
Become, come to be, happen.
“what was done” in this verse is to gegonos. The phrase means “what has happened” or “what has come to be.” The event is already reality before she knows it; the verse places happening and awareness on separate timelines.
ALSO GROWS
gegonen: has happened; has come to be
γέγονεν
This perfect form of γίνομαι describes an event as completed with a present result.
genesis: origin; coming into being
γένεσις
It shows the same root’s movement from happening to the beginning of something.
THE PATTERN
A reality can be present and decisive before the person facing it can perceive it.
And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.THE THREAD
Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.Verse 7 says she is not knowing (εἰδυῖα, from οἶδα, “know/see”); verse 9 answers with ἰδού (“behold”), from the same seeing-root. What was hidden from her is now made visible at the door.
