This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The word translated “send” carries release within it, and here what is released into the seat of power is fire.

The verse shows divine judgment entering the place power calls home: fire is sent into Hazael’s house and consumes Ben-hadad’s palaces. The names carry their own meaning, Hazael (⁨חֲזָאֵל⁩, ḥăzāʾēl, “El has seen”) and Ben-hadad (⁨בֶּן־הֲדַד⁩, ben-Hadad, “son of Hadad”), beside the royal houses the fire reaches.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that a ruler’s house or palace makes power untouchable is undone: the place meant to secure rule becomes the target of what is sent.

וְשִׁלַּחְתִּי

wəšillaḥtî

GROWS FROM

שלח

š-l-ḥ

send, send forth, release

The verb ⁨שִׁלַּחְתִּי⁩ (šillaḥtî, “I send”) grows from ⁨שלח⁩, whose word-family holds sending forth and release together. Here what is released into the royal house is fire: the root’s movement is direct, and its result is destruction.

ALSO GROWS

šālîaḥ: A messenger, one who is sent.

שָׁלִיחַ

The messenger makes visible the root’s outward movement: someone is released to carry a message.

mišlōaḥ: A sending or dispatch.

מִשְׁלוֹחַ

This branch keeps the focus on what is sent outward, as the fire is sent into the house.

וְאָכְלָה

wəʾāḵəlāh

GROWS FROM

אכל

ʾ-k-l

eat, consume

“devour” in this verse is wəʾāḵəlāh. The Hebrew says the palaces are eaten. Food and eating share this root, so the palace becomes what the fire consumes as its meal; the image makes the destruction total.

ALSO GROWS

ʾākal: To eat or consume.

אָכַל

This is the same action used of the fire consuming the palaces.

ʾōḵel: Food, something eaten.

אֹכֶל

The shared root turns the palaces into what the fire feeds on.

Fire sent into a domain signals an active force that reaches and unsettles what seems established.

But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:
Amos 1:7 · KJVThe same image sends fire against a city’s defenses and shows its palaces being consumed.
But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the LORD: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.
Jeremiah 21:14 · KJVThe fire reaches through the surrounding domain and consumes what lies within its reach.
I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?
Luke 12:49 · KJVThe image expands from a palace to the earth, introducing a force that unsettles the order around it.
Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
Exodus 3:10 · KJV

The same Hebrew root, ⁨שלח⁩, drives “send” in both verses: here fire is sent into a ruler’s house; in Exodus Moses is sent toward Pharaoh to bring Israel out. The root marks movement outward, while what is sent makes the difference between a people being released and a palace being consumed.
