This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Caleb’s wholehearted following is pictured as fullness, and the promise lands on the very ground his feet have crossed.

Caleb’s full following is met with a concrete promise: he sees the land, and the ground his feet have crossed is given to him and his children. The promise reaches into the path already walked and extends beyond one lifetime.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that the path already walked has no place in the promise: Caleb receives the very land his feet have crossed.

מִלֵּא אַחֲרֵי

milleʾ ʾaḥarē

GROWS FROM

מ־ל־א

m-l-ʾ

To fill, be full.

“wholly followed” in this verse is milleʾ ʾaḥarē. The Hebrew phrase combines ⁨מלא⁩, “fill” or “be full,” with ⁨אחרי⁩, “after”; idiomatically, Caleb followed the LORD completely. The image gives “wholly” a sense of fullness: his following is not partial.

ALSO GROWS

maleʾ: To fill; to be full.

מָלֵא

This is the same root at the heart of the phrase describing Caleb’s complete following.

melōʾ: Fullness; that which fills.

מְלֹא

It echoes the verse’s picture of following as full measure rather than a partial path.

דָּרַךְ

darakh

GROWS FROM

ד־ר־ך

d-r-k

To tread, step, or take a way.

The verse links the ground Caleb has trodden with the land he receives. The same root also forms the Hebrew word for a way or path, so the inheritance is named through the way his feet have actually taken.

ALSO GROWS

derekh: Way, road, or path.

דֶּרֶךְ

The shared root connects Caleb’s literal footsteps with the path he has walked.

dōrēkh: One who treads.

דֹּרֵךְ

This verbal form keeps the image embodied: the promise meets Caleb on ground beneath his steps.

The promise takes shape along a path actually walked, and the ground crossed becomes inheritance.

Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
Genesis 13:17 · KJVThe land God gives Abraham is approached through the ground he is told to walk.
And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.
Joshua 14:9 · KJVCaleb’s inheritance is again tied to both the land beneath his feet and his full following.
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Hebrews 11:8 · KJVAbraham’s path begins before he can see its destination, and the journey leads toward inheritance.
But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
Numbers 14:24 · KJV

Numbers 14:24 uses the same Hebrew phrase, ⁨מִלֵּא אַחֲרֵי⁩ (milleʾ ʾaḥarē), idiomatically rendered “followed me fully.” The parallel ties Caleb’s full following to this promise of land: the path he has walked becomes a gift shared with his children.
