What Does Deuteronomy 29:2 Mean in the King James?
And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The verse makes liberation a public act of seeing: all Israel is called to face what the LORD does inside the narrow place.
THE MEANING
You stand among the witnesses: the narrow place is visible, and the power ruling it is not beyond exposure. “Ye have seen” is sharpened by “before your eyes”: what happens in constriction can be recognized directly. Moses, the one drawn out, calls the whole people into that shared seeing.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The narrow place is the whole world, and the power over it cannot be exposed or undone.
THE ROOT
מִצְרַיִם
Mitsrayim
GROWS FROM
צָרַר
tsarar
To bind, press in, or constrict.
Mitsrayim (Egypt) carries the sound of צַר (tsar, “narrow”); its -ayim ending holds the image of two narrows. The verse places the LORD’s action inside that constriction, so Egypt becomes more than a setting: it names the pressure where release becomes visible.
ALSO GROWS
tsar: Narrow, tight, constricted.
צַר
This is the narrowness carried in the name Egypt, giving the place a meaning beyond geography.
tsarah: Distress, trouble, anguish.
צָרָה
Distress is pressure experienced as constriction; the verse shows that this pressure can be seen and confronted.
metsar: A narrow place or strait.
מֵצַר
This branch makes the image spatial: the narrow place is where the LORD’s action becomes visible.
וַיִּקְרָא
vayyiqra
GROWS FROM
קָרָא
qara
To call, proclaim, or read aloud.
“called” in this verse is vayyiqra. קָרָא (qara) can mean to call or proclaim, and its branches also hold recitation and assembly: the summons is something spoken and shared. The speaker’s name Moses, מֹשֶׁה (Mosheh, “drawn out”), carries מָשָׁה (mashah, “draw out”), so the one gathering Israel bears a name shaped by emergence from confinement.
ALSO GROWS
qeri’ah: Calling, proclamation, or reading aloud.
קְרִיאָה
The root holds summons and spoken witness together; Moses’ words make the people witnesses to the same deeds.
miqra: Convocation, assembly, or reading.
מִקְרָא
A call can become a gathered assembly; here it reaches all Israel, not a private hearer.
THE PATTERN
Deliverance becomes recognizable through direct witness: eyes see it, and speech names it.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,THE THREAD
And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.Moses’ name is explained through מָשָׁה (mashah, “draw out”), meaning “drawn out.” Here, the one named “drawn out” calls all Israel to see the LORD’s action in Egypt, linking emergence from constriction with direct witness.
