THE KEY
Here, the Rock’s firmness is not mere power: it is a nature whose work is whole, trustworthy, and just.
THE MEANING
The one called Rock is whole in his work, just in every way, steady enough to lean your full weight on, with no injustice in him. His strength and fairness hold together; the way from him stays straight.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It dissolves the belief that real strength must be arbitrary or unjust: this Rock’s steadiness and justice are one nature.
THE ROOT
אֱמוּנָה
emunah
GROWS FROM
אמן
Firmness and steadiness; to support or confirm, so trust can lean its full weight on what is firm.
Here “truth” is אֱמוּנָה (emunah, firmness and steadiness), the quality of something you can lean your full weight on. Beside צוּר (tsur, rock), it makes the verse’s image tangible: the Rock is steadfast, and his work does not turn toward injustice.
ALSO GROWS
aman: Be firm; support or confirm.
אָמַן
This verb shows the solidity beneath the claim that the Rock can be trusted.
amen: Truly; firm, or let it stand.
אָמֵן
Amen answers what is firm with assent, echoing the verse’s picture of dependable nature.
ne’eman: Reliable, dependable.
נֶאֱמָן
This branch names the quality the verse attributes to the Rock: steadiness that can be relied on.
תָּמִים
tamim
GROWS FROM
תמם
To be complete or whole.
The word rendered “perfect” carries the sense of wholeness and integrity. The Rock’s work is not split between appearance and reality; it holds together as a whole.
ALSO GROWS
tamam: Be complete; come to completion.
תָּמַם
The verb frames the work as brought to wholeness, not left fractured or partial.
tom: Integrity; completeness.
תֹּם
This branch brings out the soundness within “perfect”: the work is whole through and through.
צַדִּיק
tsaddiq
GROWS FROM
צדק
To be just or aligned.
“just” in this verse is tsaddiq. The verse’s final pair gathers images of alignment and straightness, not merely a verdict of innocence. Justice belongs to the Rock’s nature and to every way that comes from him.
ALSO GROWS
tsadaq: Be just; be aligned.
צָדַק
The verb presents justice as a condition of right alignment.
tsedeq: Justice; alignment.
צֶדֶק
This noun lets “just” be heard as alignment woven into the Rock’s character.
tsedaqah: Justice; rightness and alignment.
צְדָקָה
This branch extends the idea of justice into the shape of what is right.
THE PATTERN
The Rock’s constancy becomes visible in trustworthy action: whole work, just ways, refuge, and provision.
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.THE THREAD
To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.The same root, צוּר (tsur, rock), appears in “my rock,” while the verse makes uprightness and absence of unrighteousness the way this Rock is recognized. It opens Deuteronomy’s “just and right” as more than a title: the Rock’s nature takes a straight, just form.
