THE KEY
The Father is approached through one shared Breath: both are brought near through him.
THE MEANING
Through him, you have an approach to the Father: you are brought near, not left to find your own way. The same Breath makes this access common to both, so neither side comes by a separate route.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It dissolves the belief that closeness to the Father belongs to one group alone or requires a different route for each.
THE ROOT
προσαγωγή
prosagōgē
GROWS FROM
ἄγω (agō), with πρός (pros, toward)
To lead or bring; with pros, to bring toward.
The word translated “access” is prosagōgē, an approach or introduction, built on the idea of bringing toward. The verse presents nearness as something opened through him: both are brought toward the Father together.
ALSO GROWS
prosagō: Bring or lead toward; bring near.
προσάγω
This verb makes the image active: access means being brought near to the Father.
agōgē: Leading, bringing, or conduct.
ἀγωγή
This related form keeps the sense of a guided way, illuminating access as an approach rather than a status claimed alone.
πνεύματι
pneumati
GROWS FROM
πνέω
pneō
To blow or breathe.
The Greek word here is pneuma, breath. Its root also carries the sense of blowing, so the verse’s “one Spirit” is one shared Breath through whom both approach the Father. The wording holds their access together in a single breath.
ALSO GROWS
pnoē: Breath or blowing.
πνοή
This noun makes the breath connection explicit; Acts uses it for the rushing sound like a mighty wind.
pneumatikos: Breath-related; spiritual.
πνευματικός
This adjective carries the same root into what is breath-related, showing pneuma as a shared sphere or quality.
THE PATTERN
Approach to God opens as people are brought near and gathered into shared belonging.
Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.THE THREAD
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.Romans uses the same Greek word for “access,” prosagōgē, the approach or bringing near named here. It describes standing in favor through trust, while Ephesians reveals that both come toward the Father through one Breath.
