This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The verse turns resistance into one repeated posture: to withstand is to stand against, and after everything, to stand.

You take up God’s whole armor so you can withstand the hostile day. After everything is done, the passage ends with one posture: standing. The danger may still be present; remaining upright through it is what the verse names.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that pressure still being present means you have failed: the verse names withstanding it and remaining standing as the outcome.

ἀντιστῆναι

antistēnai

GROWS FROM

⁨στη-⁩ / ⁨στα-⁩ (histēmi)

Stand; set or place upright.

“withstand / stand” in this verse is antistēnai. The verse says ⁨ἀντιστῆναι⁩ (antistēnai, stand against) and ends with ⁨στῆναι⁩ (stēnai, stand): both phrases come from the same Greek verb family. That makes the final stance the shape of resistance, not a separate achievement after it.

ALSO GROWS

anthistēmi: Stand against; resist.

ἀνθίστημι

This is the stand-family behind “withstand”: ⁨ἀντί⁩ (anti, against) joins the same root, framing resistance as standing against.

anistēmi: Rise; stand up.

ἀνίστημι

With ⁨ἀνά⁩ (ana, up), the stand-family gives the image of rising to one’s feet; here, the final bare “stand” names the position that remains after resistance.

Scripture pictures strength under threat as a position held through pressure.

And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
Exodus 14:13 · KJVStanding is held while the threat remains in view, and the verse connects that stance with seeing the LORD’s deliverance.
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
1 Corinthians 16:13 · KJVStanding fast appears alongside watchfulness and strength, presenting firmness as an active posture.
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
1 Peter 5:9 · KJV

Peter uses ⁨ἀντιστῆτε⁩ (antistēte, stand against; resist), from the same stand-family that gives Ephesians its “withstand.” The echo reveals the structure: resistance is a way of standing, and that stance continues while affliction is still present.
