What Does Esther 8:3 Mean in the King James?
And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The Hebrew repeats one root for “device” and “devised,” showing Esther asks the king to remove both the harm and the plan behind it.
THE MEANING
A threat can remain active after its author is gone if the design he set in motion still stands. Esther brings both the harm and the plan before the king, with tears and precise naming together. The verse speaks where danger persists through the thought that produced it.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The danger ends when its author is removed; a design can remain in force after its deviser is gone.
THE ROOT
מַחֲשַׁבְתּוֹ
maḥăšavtô
GROWS FROM
ח־ש־ב
To think, reckon, or devise.
“device / devised” in this verse is maḥăšavtô. The Hebrew has “his plan which he planned”: both the noun translated “device” and the verb “devised” grow from ח־ש־ב. The repeated root makes the design itself visible as part of the danger Esther asks to be removed.
ALSO GROWS
machashavah: Thought, plan, or design.
מַחֲשָׁבָה
This is the noun form behind Haman’s “device”; it shows that the danger has a deliberate plan beneath it.
cheshbon: Account, reckoning, or calculation.
חֶשְׁבּוֹן
This branch carries the sense of working something out; Haman’s device is a calculated design, not merely a passing impulse.
THE PATTERN
A harmful design can outlive its designer, so deliverance reaches the plan as well as the person.
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.THE THREAD
The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.Psalm 33:10 uses the same ח־ש־ב root for “devices” that appears in Esther’s “device that he had devised.” It opens Esther’s request as a plea against the plan itself: the danger ends when its design is made ineffective.
