What Does Exodus 19:17 Mean in the King James?
And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

THE KEY
The one whose name is linked to being drawn out now leads a people out of their enclosure, toward an encounter that does not require them to climb the mountain.
THE MEANING
Even now, you are brought out of the camp, the settled enclosure, and stand at the mountain’s foot before God. The encounter begins in the movement out and the standing there; the verse does not make ascent the price of presence.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that you must climb high enough to reach God: here, the people meet God standing at the mountain’s base.
THE ROOT
מֹשֶׁה
Mosheh
GROWS FROM
מָשָׁה
mashah
To draw out; Exodus 2:10 links Moses’s name to being drawn out of the water.
“Moses” in this verse is Mosheh. The name is linked to mashah, “draw out”; the verse’s “brought forth” comes from a different root, yatsa, “go out, bring out.” Their echo joins two distinct roots: the one drawn out now leads the people out.
ALSO GROWS
mashah: To draw out.
מָשָׁה
Exodus 2:10 uses this word to explain Moses’s name through his being drawn out of the water.
Mosheh: Moses; the name connected in Exodus 2:10 with being drawn out.
מֹשֶׁה
Here, the one drawn out leads the people out of their camp.
וַיּוֹצֵא

GROWS FROM
יָצָא
yatsa
To go out or come out; in this verb form, to cause to go out, bring out.
The Hebrew carries the sense of bringing the people out of the camp before they meet God. English can make “brought forth” sound like simple leading; the root keeps the outward movement in view.
ALSO GROWS
yatsa: To go out, come out.
יָצָא
This is the root beneath Moses’s act of bringing the people out of camp.
motsa: An outlet, going out, or point of departure.
מוֹצָא
The shared root frames the scene as an exit into encounter: the people move out, then take their stand.
THE PATTERN
Encounter with God takes the shape of coming out toward the divine presence and taking one’s place before it.
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,THE THREAD
And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.Exodus 2:10 links Moses’s name to mashah, “to draw out.” Here, the one drawn out leads the people out of the camp, so his name’s meaning echoes the movement he carries.
