This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

God’s remembering is covenant attention moving toward action: the groaning is heard within a promise, not outside it.

Your groaning is heard, and covenant remembrance holds your distress within a promise that remains active. The Hebrew verb for “remembered” also carries the sense of calling to mind; beside “covenant,” it names attention bound to what was promised. The verse lets pain be real without making it the whole story.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that groaning means abandonment, or that a promise is forgotten when its fulfillment is not yet visible.

וַיִּזְכֹּר

vayyizkor

GROWS FROM

זכר

Remember, call to mind.

English can make “remembered” sound like simply recalling something from the past. Here, ⁨זָכַר⁩ (zakar, “remember”) joins covenant: the root’s branches show remembrance as something held in view, a fidelity that moves toward what was promised.

ALSO GROWS

zeker: Remembrance, memorial, mention.

זֵכֶר

This branch shows that remembering can be something kept present, not only a thought that passes.

zikkaron: Memorial, reminder.

זִכָּרוֹן

A memorial makes remembrance tangible; beside covenant, it illuminates memory as a continuing bond.

Scripture presents remembrance as active fidelity: what God holds in covenant memory moves toward preservation and deliverance.

And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;
Genesis 8:1 · KJVGod’s remembrance is followed by the waters receding, joining memory to preservation.
He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.
Psalm 105:8 · KJVCovenant remembrance extends across generations as an enduring commitment.
To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
Luke 1:72 · KJVRemembering the covenant is linked with bringing promised compassion into action.
And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
Exodus 6:5 · KJV

This verse repeats the same pair of verbs: ⁨שָׁמַע⁩ (shama, “hear and respond”) and ⁨זָכַר⁩ (zakar, “remember”). Their return carries the groaning into a promise of release, opening “remembered” toward action.
