What Does Exodus 25:27 Mean in the King James?
Over against the border shall the rings be for places of the staves to bear the table.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The rings are literally called houses for the poles, giving the table built-in dwellings for its own movement.
THE MEANING
The table’s supports are built into its structure: rings house the staves, and the staves bear the table. Provision can move with its supports already in place.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The verse undoes the idea that sustaining provision has to stay fixed in one place: this table is made to be borne.
THE ROOT
בָּתִּים
batim
GROWS FROM
בית
House, dwelling
The KJV’s places conceals the image of houses: each ring is a dwelling for a pole. Movement is given a home inside the structure, so carrying the table is part of its design.
ALSO GROWS
bayit: House, dwelling
בַּיִת
The singular form makes the ring’s function concrete: it houses the pole.
beit: House of; the construct form of house
בֵּית
This form preserves the same dwelling image in compounds, as the rings provide a place for the staves within the table’s design.
לָשֵׂאת
laset
GROWS FROM
נשא
Lift up, carry, bear
To bear is also to lift; the poles do not merely accompany the table but raise it into motion. The same root can name what is carried and the one lifted to lead, joining transport and elevation in one image.
ALSO GROWS
massa: A burden; something carried
מַשָּׂא
The table itself is something borne, making the carrying action explicit in the root family.
nasi: Prince or leader; one elevated
נָשִׂיא
This branch carries the sense of being lifted, echoing how the staves raise the table for movement.
הַשֻּׁלְחָן
hashulchan
GROWS FROM
שלח
Send forth, release, extend
The table’s name belongs to the send-forth family: provision is pictured as extended outward, not sealed in place. Its built-in carrying rings enact that extension.
ALSO GROWS
shaliach: Messenger; one sent
שָׁלִיחַ
The messenger carries what is sent outward, as the staves carry the table and its provision.
Shiloach: Sent forth; the Hebrew name behind Siloam
שִׁלֹחַ
This branch links sending with movement outward, opening a connection between carried provision and what is sent to restore.
THE PATTERN
Provision is made mobile by supports that travel with it.
And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet, and cover the same with a covering of badgers’ skins, and shall put in the staves thereof. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,THE THREAD
And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. The table’s name, שֻׁלְחָן (shulchan, table), echoes שָׁלַח (shalach, send forth), the root behind Shiloach, explained here as Sent. Exodus pictures provision made portable; John shows what is sent reaching the body with restoration.
