This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The one named “in the shadow of God” is called to shape sacred space, so his identity and his work echo one another.

The LORD’s call is particular: Bezalel is named, his father and grandfather are named, and he is placed within Judah. Moses (⁨מֹשֶׁה⁩, mōšeh, “drawn out”) speaks the name of Bezalel (⁨בְּצַלְאֵל⁩, bəṣalʾēl, “in the shadow of God”), son of Uri (⁨אוּרִי⁩, ʾuri, “my light”), of Judah (⁨יְהוּדָה⁩, Yehudah, “praise”). The verse meets you now as a word in which a person remains distinct within a people and is named into meaningful work.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It dissolves the belief that being part of a people makes a person anonymous: Bezalel is called by name and his lineage is named.

קָרָא

qārāʾ

GROWS FROM

קרא

To call out, summon, name, or proclaim.

“called” in this verse is qārāʾ. The verb ⁨קָרָא⁩ (qārāʾ, “call out, summon”) makes this more than an assignment: a voice names a particular person into the work. Bezalel’s name, ⁨בְּצַלְאֵל⁩ (bəṣalʾēl, “in the shadow of God”), gives that calling a nature of shelter.

ALSO GROWS

miqraʾ: A proclamation or a gathering called together.

מִקְרָא

The call that names Bezalel also belongs to a shared work among the people.

niqraʾ: One who is called or named.

נִקְרָא

This form makes explicit that the call reaches a distinct person, not an anonymous crowd.

A calling recognizes the person by name and places that person within meaningful work.

See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:
Exodus 31:2 · KJVThe LORD names Bezalel directly and connects his identity with the work entrusted to him.
But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
Isaiah 43:1 · KJVBeing called by name expresses personal recognition and belonging.
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
John 10:3 · KJVThe voice knows each one by name and leads them forward.
But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
Isaiah 43:1 · KJV

Both passages use ⁨קרא⁩ (qārāʾ, “call, summon”) with the words “by name.” Isaiah makes the belonging in this naming unmistakable: “I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”
