What Does Exodus 36:30 Mean in the King James?
And there were eight boards; and their sockets were sixteen sockets of silver, under every board two sockets.

THE KEY
The sanctuary’s upright boards each have a pair of supports beneath them, built into the structure where the eye does not rest.
THE MEANING
The verse describes a structure whose boards rest on two sockets apiece. What stands above depends on a base beneath it, and that support belongs to each board. The foundation is part of the structure even when it is out of view.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The belief that an upright part stands by itself gives way: every board has support beneath it.
THE ROOT
תַּחַת
taḥat
GROWS FROM
תחת
Beneath, under; also in the place of.
English can make “under” sound like a simple location, but this word marks the relationship between each board and its footing. Its branches preserve that below-axis: the verse locates support beneath every upright part.
ALSO GROWS
mittaḥat: from beneath; underneath
מִתַּחַת
It retains the same root consonants and makes the below-position explicit, as the sockets sit beneath each board.
taḥton: lower; the lower part
תַּחְתּוֹן
It shares the root consonants and names the lower level, bringing into view the structural layer the verse places below the boards.
THE PATTERN
What rises into view stands because support is placed beneath it.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.THE THREAD
And they shall be eight boards, and their sockets of silver, sixteen sockets; two sockets under one board, and two sockets under another board. The Hebrew word תַּחַת (taḥat, “under”) appears here as it does in Exodus 36:30, linking the boards directly to the support beneath them. This verse makes the pairing explicit: each board rests on two sockets.
