What Does Exodus 8:3 Mean in the King James?
And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:

THE KEY
The river does not merely produce frogs: it swarms with them, turning the language of creation’s abundance into a force that fills the whole home.
THE MEANING
The river’s teeming does not stop at the shore: frogs enter the house, the bedroom, the bed, the servants’ quarters, and even the ovens and kneading troughs. Abundance reaches into rest and the making of daily bread, becoming intrusion as it crosses every threshold.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie this undoes is that abundance is always a blessing: here, what multiplies without boundary becomes affliction.
THE ROOT
וְשָׁרַץ
wəshāraṣ
GROWS FROM
שרץ
To swarm, teem, or multiply.
“bring forth abundantly” in this verse is wəshāraṣ. English turns this into a phrase, but the Hebrew says the river itself swarms frogs. The same root describes the waters teeming with life in Genesis; here that same abundance crosses into every room.
ALSO GROWS
shāraṣ: To swarm, teem, or multiply.
שָׁרַץ
This verb describes the river’s teeming in Exodus and the waters’ teeming in Genesis 1:20.
sherets: A swarm or swarming creature.
שֶׁרֶץ
Genesis uses this related noun for the living creatures that swarm in the waters, revealing the shared seed beneath the river’s abundance here.
THE PATTERN
Abundance can fill its place with life, but when it crosses every boundary, it becomes overwhelming.
And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.THE THREAD
And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.Genesis and Exodus share the root שרץ: the waters teem with living creatures in one verse, and the river swarms frogs in the other. The root holds both abundance and its source together, while this verse shows that what teems can overflow into every part of a home.
