This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Exhausting effort has not brought the residue out; what remains in the vessel goes into the fire.

You can be worn down by lies while what is within you still refuses to leave; strain alone does not empty the vessel. The residue remains in the fire, exposed and unsoftened.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that exhausting yourself proves the residue is gone is undone here: effort and emergence are not the same.

חֶלְאָתָהּ

ḥelʾātāh

GROWS FROM

חלא

Rust, scum, or filthy buildup: residue that clings.

The word presents the scum as accumulated deposit, not something that simply passes away. The same word appears in the pot image earlier in the chapter, tying what remains within the vessel to what is carried into the fire.

ALSO GROWS

Rust: Rust-like scale or residue.

חֶלְאָה

This shade makes the scum a clinging buildup rather than a brief surface froth.

ḥelʾātāh: The residue attributed to the vessel.

חֶלְאָתָהּ

This form links the pot’s inner deposit to what remains in the fire.

תֵצֵא

tētseʾ

GROWS FROM

יצא

To go out or emerge; in a causative form, to bring out.

“went forth” in this verse is tētseʾ. This root can describe something emerging on its own or being brought out. Here the negation locks the scum inside: the possibility of emergence is present in the verb, but the verse says it does not happen.

ALSO GROWS

Go out: To exit or emerge.

יָצָא

It names the movement the scum fails to make.

Bring out: To cause something to come out.

הוֹצִיא

The causative branch shows the same root can name an agent bringing what is inside into the open.

What washing cannot remove remains exposed when the fire brings what is hidden into view.

But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:
Malachi 3:2 · KJVThe refiner’s fire and cleansing soap make exposure a severe encounter, not a cover for what remains.
Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
1 Corinthians 3:13 · KJVFire reveals what a hidden thing is made of.
Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it.
Ezekiel 24:6 · KJV

Verse 6 uses the same word for scum while naming the pot where it sits and declaring it has not gone out. Verse 12 carries that residue into the fire, so the image follows the stubborn buildup from inside the vessel to its exposure.
