Thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob.

This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The return of the scattered is not only a homecoming; it makes God’s set-apart nature visible in the very people gathered.

The verse speaks now as a promise of Israel gathered from dispersion and dwelling again in the land given to Jacob, with God’s set-apart nature visible among them to the nations. Jacob’s name (⁨יַעֲקֹב⁩, Yaʿaqov, associated with the heel) places the promise of dwelling alongside an image of grasping, while the land itself is given. Restoration here is communal and public: the gathered people dwell, and God’s nature is seen.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that scattering is permanent or that restoration can remain invisible: gathering leads to dwelling, and the nations witness God’s set-apart nature.

בְּקַבְּצִי

beqabbetsi

GROWS FROM

קבץ

To gather or collect into one place.

“gathered” in this verse is beqabbetsi. The verse sets gathering directly against scattering: return is a movement from dispersion into shared dwelling. The same root appears in promises to gather people from the nations, so the word carries the sense of being brought together again, not merely moved to a new place.

ALSO GROWS

weqibbetskha: And gather you

וְקִבֶּצְךָ

Deuteronomy 30:3 uses the same root for gathering from the nations, pairing it with the scattering that this verse reverses.

yeqabbets: He shall gather

יְקַבֵּץ

Isaiah 11:12 uses this form for gathering Israel’s dispersed, extending the root’s image to a people brought back from the earth’s edges.

נָפֹצוּ

nāphōtsu

GROWS FROM

פוץ

To scatter or disperse.

The text names dispersion as a condition that can be reversed: those scattered are the ones God gathers. The paired roots make restoration a return from separation into a place of dwelling.

ALSO GROWS

wayyāfets: He scattered

וַיָּפֶץ

Genesis 11:8 uses this root for people dispersed across the earth, echoing the condition this verse turns around.

hefitsam: He scattered them

הֱפִיצָם

Genesis 11:9 uses a causative form of the same root, making the dispersal explicit as an action whose result can later be reversed.

וְנִקְדַּשְׁתִּי

wenikdashti

GROWS FROM

קדש

To set apart; to become or be shown as distinct.

“sanctified” in this verse is wenikdashti. The verse says God is set apart in Israel before the nations’ eyes, so restoration itself makes God’s nature visible. The root also names the sanctuary as a set-apart place, linking what is set apart with a dwelling marked by presence.

ALSO GROWS

qadosh: Set apart

קָדוֹשׁ

This form names the quality made visible among the gathered people.

miqdash: Sanctuary; set-apart place

מִקְדָּשׁ

The related word for sanctuary connects set-apartness with a place of dwelling, echoing the restored dwelling in this verse.

Restoration gathers a dispersed people into shared dwelling and makes God’s nature visible beyond them.

That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.
Deuteronomy 30:3 · KJVThe verse pairs scattering from the nations with God’s gathering, the same movement from dispersion to return.
And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
Isaiah 11:12 · KJVGathering reaches the dispersed from the earth’s edges and is made visible among the nations.
And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
John 11:52 · KJVThe scattered are gathered together in one, repeating the movement from dispersion into belonging.
And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.
Ezekiel 36:23 · KJV

Both verses use the root ⁨קדש⁩ (q-d-sh, set apart): in each, God is set apart in Israel before the nations’ eyes. Ezekiel 36:23 makes the public witness explicit: God’s nature is seen through what happens among the people.
