What Does Ezekiel 43:11 Mean in the King James?
And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them.

THE KEY
Shame is met with a pattern placed before the eyes, something to guard and put into practice.
THE MEANING
When what you have done brings shame, the house’s full design is set before your sight: its form, its entrances and exits, and its instructions. What is made known is written where you can see it, so the whole pattern can be guarded and enacted.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that shame leaves only disgrace: here, the exposed person is also shown a form and its instructions.
THE ROOT
הוֹדַע
hodaʿ
GROWS FROM
ידע
To know or perceive; in this form, to make known.
The word translated “shew” carries the sense of making something known, so the design is not merely announced but brought into perception. The verse then places it in writing before their eyes: seeing, knowing, and doing belong to one movement.
ALSO GROWS
yada: Know, perceive.
יָדַע
The root’s basic verb shows that what is shown becomes something known through perception.
daʿat: Knowledge, understanding.
דַּעַת
This branch links the displayed form with understanding, not just receiving a command.
וְיִשְׁמְרוּ
veyishmeru
GROWS FROM
שמר
To guard, watch over, keep.
“keep” in this verse is veyishmeru. The word for keeping carries the sense of guarding and watching over. The whole form is treated as something entrusted to their care, held in view and carried into action.
ALSO GROWS
shomer: One who guards or watches.
שֹׁמֵר
This branch makes the keeper’s role visible: the pattern is watched over, not merely remembered.
mishmeret: A charge, watch, or guarded responsibility.
מִשְׁמֶרֶת
The same root can name what is entrusted to someone, echoing the responsibility to keep the whole form.
תּוֹרֹתָיו
torotav
GROWS FROM
ירה
To point, direct, or instruct.
The word rendered “laws” belongs to the family of Torah, meaning instruction. The directions for the house are joined to its visible form: they point toward how the pattern is to be carried out.
ALSO GROWS
torah: Instruction, direction.
תּוֹרָה
This branch makes the house’s laws legible as instruction for living within its pattern.
moreh: One who instructs or directs.
מוֹרֶה
The branch shows the root’s directing quality: instruction points toward a way of acting.
THE PATTERN
What is made visible and held in view becomes a pattern of practice, not information alone.
And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was shewed thee in the mount. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.THE THREAD
And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel. The word translated “shew” in both verses comes from ידע (yada), meaning know or perceive; here it means to make known. In Ezekiel 40:4, seeing leads to declaring, while Ezekiel 43:11 places the revealed design before the eyes and carries it into guarded practice.
