What Does Ezekiel 47:1 Mean in the King James?
Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
Sacred life is already flowing outward from its hidden source beneath the house’s threshold.
THE MEANING
Water comes from beneath the house’s threshold and descends beside the altar. What begins hidden underfoot becomes a visible current moving east, the direction the house itself faces. The sacred current travels outward from the house.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The belief that the sacred is sealed inside its building dissolves here: its life-giving waters are already moving outward.
THE ROOT
יֹצְאִים
yots’im
GROWS FROM
יצא
To go out, come forth, emerge.
“issued out” in this verse is yots’im. The Hebrew pictures the waters already moving out from beneath the threshold. The same root describes the sanctuary’s waters later nourishing trees whose leaves bring healing.
ALSO GROWS
yatsa: To go out or come forth.
יָצָא
This verb names the movement at the center of the verse: the waters emerge from beneath the house.
motsa: A going out, source, or point of emergence.
מוֹצָא
This branch links the source of the waters with their movement outward.
קָדִימָה
qadimah
GROWS FROM
קדם
To be in front or before; also, east, the direction of sunrise.
The word translated “eastward” carries the sense of what is in front or before. The house faces this same direction, so the waters flow toward the side that stands before its face.
ALSO GROWS
qedem: East, the front, or what is before.
קֶדֶם
It shows that east can carry both a compass direction and the sense of what lies ahead.
qadam: To go before, precede, or meet.
קָדַם
This branch gives the direction a sense of movement toward what lies ahead.
THE PATTERN
Life flows outward from its divine source, turning hidden water into a current that nourishes what lies beyond it.
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.THE THREAD
And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine. The waters “issued out” in this verse and the sanctuary’s waters “issued out” in verse 12 use the same Hebrew root, יצא (yatsa), meaning to go out or emerge. What first appears as a hidden flow beneath the threshold becomes a river that feeds trees and brings medicine.
