This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

In Hebrew, “follow me” is “go after me”: the journey depends on a movement only the woman can choose.

When a path depends on another person, their answer remains open: they may choose not to travel with you. A shared journey cannot be secured by your intention alone.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It dissolves the assumption that another person’s agreement is guaranteed just because the journey has been arranged.

תֵּלֵךְ

tēlēḵ

GROWS FROM

הלך

halakh

To walk, go, or travel.

The verb is ⁨תֵּלֵךְ⁩ (tēlēḵ, “she will go”), from ⁨הלך⁩ (halakh, “walk/go”). In this travel setting, “follow” still carries bodily movement: another person’s intention cannot make the woman take the road.

ALSO GROWS

holekh: One who is going or walking.

הוֹלֵךְ

This form keeps the root’s meaning in active motion: the question is whether she will actually go, not merely whether she agrees in thought.

halikhah: Going or walking; the plural ⁨הֲלִיכוֹת⁩ (halikhot) means “goings” or “processions.”

הֲלִיכָה

Psalm 68:25 uses this root for God’s “goings” in the sanctuary; here, too, the root makes a path something traveled through movement.

A shared road remains open until the person invited answers with movement of their own.

And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
Genesis 24:58 · KJVThe possibility raised in this verse receives its answer when Rebekah chooses to go.
And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Ruth 1:16 · KJVRuth makes the shared road her own choice, naming where she will go and whom she will accompany.
And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
Matthew 4:20 · KJVThe invitation becomes a shared path through the invited people’s own act of following.
And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
Genesis 24:58 · KJV

The same Hebrew root for going returns in Rebekah’s direct answer: “I will go.” The servant’s uncertainty becomes her own movement and choice.
