This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The kiss is asked to confirm sonship, yet closeness alone cannot make recognition true.

A kiss can bring someone near while leaving identity concealed. Isaac calls the one before him “my son” and asks for the gesture of closeness, even as the truth of who stands before him remains obscured. Nearness does not guarantee recognition.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that a tender gesture guarantees honesty is undone: a kiss can be intimate while carrying deception.

נָשַׁק

nāshaq

GROWS FROM

נ־ש־ק

n-sh-q

To kiss; to touch with the lips.

“kiss” in this verse is nāshaq. The Hebrew verb names physical contact, but contact does not prove that the person being received is truly known. The same root appears in Proverbs’ “kisses of an enemy,” where a gesture of closeness carries deceit.

ALSO GROWS

nāshaq: To kiss; the verb behind “kiss me” here.

נָשַׁק

The action brings Isaac and the concealed son into bodily closeness without resolving the hidden identity.

neshīqah: A kiss; the noun form from the same root.

נְשִׁיקָה

Proverbs 27:6 uses this root for an enemy’s kisses, showing that the same gesture can express affection or conceal deceit.

A gesture of affection can carry deception when closeness covers what remains hidden.

And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him.
2 Samuel 15:5 · KJVThe kiss welcomes people close while Absalom wins their allegiance through concealed ambition.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Proverbs 27:6 · KJVThe proverb names the danger present in a kiss: its outward tenderness can hide an enemy’s intent.
But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
Luke 22:48 · KJVJudas uses a kiss to identify the one he is betraying, making affection the sign of betrayal.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Proverbs 27:6 · KJV

Genesis 27:26 and Proverbs 27:6 use the Hebrew root ⁨נָשַׁק⁩ (nāshaq, to kiss). The proverb states plainly what Genesis reveals through the scene: a kiss can appear to affirm trust while participating in deception.
