What Does Genesis 27:30 Mean in the King James?
And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

THE KEY
The blessing is complete, but Jacob’s heel-linked name echoes as Esau arrives on the heels of his exit.
THE MEANING
You stand at the overlap of a word completed and another arrival: Jacob is scarcely out of Isaac’s presence when Esau enters. Jacob’s name carries the image of a heel and of following close behind, and that image echoes in the timing. The blessing is complete, yet the next entrance follows at once.
THE ROOT
יַעֲקֹב
Yaʿaqov
GROWS FROM
עקב
Heel; the verbal form can mean to follow at the heel or supplant.
Jacob’s name carries the heel and the act of following close behind. Here that name-image reappears in the timing: he is scarcely gone when Esau comes in. The English name alone does not show this word-picture linking Jacob’s heel-grasping to his near-following exit.
ALSO GROWS
ʿaqev: Heel
עָקֵב
The heel is the image carried in Jacob’s name, recalling the hand that grasps Esau’s heel at birth.
ʿaqav: Follow at the heel; supplant
עָקַב
This verb turns the heel image into following closely; Esau’s entrance comes just after Jacob’s departure.
לְבָרֵךְ
levarekh
GROWS FROM
ברך
Bless; the root also carries the sense of bending or kneeling.
The root holds blessing together with knee and bending imagery, so the blessing is more embodied than an abstract good wish. Isaac has just spoken it, and the next arrival places its moment at the doorway.
ALSO GROWS
berekh: Knee
בֶּרֶךְ
This branch preserves the knee image within the same consonants as blessing, without replacing “bless” as the word’s meaning.
berakhah: Blessing
בְּרָכָה
This noun names the blessing Isaac has just completed; it shares the root that also carries the knee image.
THE PATTERN
A spoken blessing stands at a threshold and reaches toward a future beyond its moment.
And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.THE THREAD
And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.Jacob’s name is tied to the heel he grasps at birth. Here, that same image echoes as Esau enters just after Jacob has barely left, making the name’s old word-picture visible in the timing.
