This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

In Mitzrayim (⁨מִצְרַיִם⁩, Mitzrayim: “the two narrows”), the family receives a settled place, provision takes root inside constriction without making it disappear.

You can have a real place and real provision while some part of life remains constricted. This verse holds settled belonging and the narrowness of Egypt in the same sentence.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It loosens the belief that receiving provision means every constraint has ended: here the family receives the best of the land, and it is still Egypt.

וַיּוֹשֵׁב

wayyoshev

GROWS FROM

ישב

yashav

To sit, remain, dwell, or settle.

The form means Joseph causes his family to dwell; “placed” carries the sense of settling them somewhere. Their place is established, even though the surrounding land remains Mitzrayim, the constricting place.

ALSO GROWS

yoshev: A dweller; one who lives in a place.

יֹשֵׁב

The family is not merely passing through in this verse: Joseph settles them as residents.

moshav: A dwelling place or settlement.

מוֹשָׁב

This branch makes the root’s movement visible: settling people gives them a place to inhabit.

וַיִּתֵּן

vayitten

GROWS FROM

נתן

natan

To give, set, or place.

“gave” in this verse is vayitten. The verb can carry both giving and setting in place. Joseph’s gift is land they can inhabit, so provision becomes a location, not just something received.

ALSO GROWS

nathun: Given or set in place.

נָתוּן

This form shows the root’s link between a gift and what is established for someone.

mattanah: A gift.

מַתָּנָה

The land is given as a concrete provision: the gift takes the form of a place to dwell.

Provision can take root within constrained conditions without making those conditions disappear.

And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.
Genesis 47:27 · KJVThe family settles in Egypt and gains possessions and growth while remaining in the land of constriction.
And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.
Jeremiah 29:7 · KJVEven in a place of captivity, the people can find a shared measure of peace within the city where they are.
As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
2 Corinthians 6:10 · KJVSorrow and lack remain present alongside joy and abundance, holding constraint and provision together.
And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.
Genesis 47:27 · KJV

The phrase “Israel dwelt” uses ⁨וַיֵּשֶׁב⁩ (vayyēshev, dwelt), from ⁨ישב⁩ (yashav, to dwell or settle), the same root as Joseph “placed” his family here. The next verse shows that this settling grows into possession and abundance, still within Egypt.
