What Does Habakkuk 2:3 Mean in the King James?
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

THE KEY
The delay does not leave the vision in open-ended time; it is held within a מוֹעֵד (moʿed, an appointed time that is also a meeting).
THE MEANING
When the vision before you has not yet arrived, its delay does not make it a lie. It remains aimed toward its appointed time, and Hebrew doubles the verb “come” for emphasis: “coming, it will come.”
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie this verse undoes is that a delay proves the vision false.
THE ROOT
מוֹעֵד
moʿed
GROWS FROM
יעד
To appoint, designate, or set a time or place.
מוֹעֵד (moʿed, appointed time or meeting) comes from יעד (yaʿad, to appoint or designate). The future here is not an indefinite stretch of time: the vision has an appointment, and its delay does not cancel that appointment.
ALSO GROWS
yaʿad: to appoint, designate, or set a time
יָעַד
The verb shows that an appointed time is a time that has been deliberately set, not simply an unspecified future.
moʿed: an appointed time, meeting, or appointed festival
מוֹעֵד
This same noun carries both the sense of a set time and a meeting, giving the vision’s arrival the shape of an appointment.
noʿad: to meet, assemble, or be appointed; a form of יעד
נוֹעַד
The same root can describe meeting, so the appointed time can be understood as a point of encounter as well as a date.
THE PATTERN
What is appointed may remain unseen for a time without being canceled; its fulfillment arrives at its appointed time.
Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.THE THREAD
Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.“The set time” is מוֹעֵד (moʿed, appointed time), the same Hebrew word that marks Habakkuk’s vision. Psalm 102 pairs its arrival with arising and compassion, showing the appointed moment as the beginning of restoration.
