What Does Habakkuk 3:19 Mean in the King James?
The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
God’s strength does not flatten the high places; it gives you feet that can move across them.
THE MEANING
The LORD is the capacity beneath your footing. He makes your steps sure and leads you across the high ground. Strength here becomes movement through difficult terrain, not escape from it.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
A hard climb does not prove that strength is absent. The verse pictures strength as the ability to tread the heights themselves, not as the removal of every steep place.
THE ROOT

GROWS FROM
ח־י־ל
ḥ-y-l
Strength, force, capacity
The word for strength belongs to a family that can describe capacity, valor, resources, and organized force. Here that capacity takes shape as sure feet and guided movement over the heights.
ALSO GROWS
chayil: Force, ability, valor, or resources
חַיִל
Strength is presented as usable capacity: what enables the movement described in the rest of the verse.
cheil: A host, army, or organized force
חֵיל
This branch carries the sense of gathered strength, widening the image beyond private effort.
יַדְרִכֵנִי

GROWS FROM
ד־ר־ך
d-r-k
To tread, step, or travel along
The word translated “make me to walk” comes from the same root as the Hebrew word for “way.” The verse joins them: a way becomes traversable through steps, and the high place becomes ground you can tread.
ALSO GROWS
darak: To tread or step
דָּרַךְ
This is the action the verse describes: being enabled to place your feet on the heights.
derekh: A way, road, or course
דֶּרֶךְ
The shared root links the path with the act of traveling it; the verse pictures direction as movement across real ground.
THE PATTERN
Strength opens a path of movement across ground that seems difficult or impassable.
He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.THE THREAD
He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.Psalm 18:33 carries the same pairing of hind-like feet and high places. Habakkuk adds that the LORD is the speaker’s strength and says he is made to tread those heights, so elevation becomes ground for movement rather than a barrier.
