What Does Hosea 14:8 Mean in the King James?
Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.

THE KEY
Ephraim’s name is tied to fruitfulness, and this verse locates that fruit in the LORD as its source.
THE MEANING
Ephraim turns from idols and is met with an answer and a watchful regard; the LORD is pictured as an evergreen, and fruit is found in him. The verse speaks now of fruitfulness as received from its source, rather than secured through the things we make and cling to.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that idols can secure fruitfulness: the verse locates the fruit in the LORD, after Ephraim asks what remains between them and idols.
THE ROOT
פֶּרְיְךָ
piryekha
GROWS FROM
פרה
parah
To bear fruit, be fruitful, increase.
The Hebrew word for fruit grows from the root meaning to be fruitful, so the fruit is bound to the life that bears it. אֶפְרַיִם (Ephrayim, “Ephraim,” a name tied to fruitfulness) echoes this seed: what the name carries is found in the LORD.
ALSO GROWS
parah: Be fruitful, bear fruit, increase.
פָּרָה
This is the root verb beneath “fruit”; it links the harvest to the source’s capacity to make life fruitful.
hiphranî: He made me fruitful.
הִפְרַנִי
Genesis 41:52 uses this form in the naming of Ephraim, making the link between Ephraim’s name and the fruit found in the LORD especially clear.
Ephrayim: Ephraim; a name tied to fruitfulness.
אֶפְרַיִם
The verse joins the name’s fruitfulness to its source: “From me is thy fruit found.”
THE PATTERN
Fruitful life comes from remaining connected to its life-giving source.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.THE THREAD
And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.Genesis connects Ephraim’s name to הִפְרַנִי (hiphranî, “he made me fruitful”), from פרה (parah, “to bear fruit”). Hosea brings that same fruitfulness back to its source: “From me is thy fruit found.”
