What Does Hosea 2:22 Mean in the King James?
And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The verse repeats one Hebrew word for answering, so the harvest is not merely received, it answers back.
THE MEANING
The earth answers the crops, and their yield answers Jezreel, whose name carries the meaning “God sows.” Provision appears as a chain of responses, with sowing and harvest bound together in a living exchange.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The verse undoes the belief that the earth is an inert backdrop and provision arrives as disconnected supply: here the land and its yield answer one another.
THE ROOT
עָנָה
anah
GROWS FROM
ענה
to answer, respond
“hear / answer” in this verse is anah. The same root appears where the KJV says “hear” and where it says “answer.” The verse’s sequence is therefore not simply about one thing perceiving another: each part responds to the next.
ALSO GROWS
ma'aneh: answer, response
מַעֲנֶה
It makes explicit the response carried by the repeated verb in the verse.
oneh: answering, responding
עֹנֶה
This participial form gives the root the sense of an active answer, not passive hearing.
יִזְרְעֶאל
Yizre'el
GROWS FROM
זרע
to sow, scatter seed
Jezreel joins the sowing root זרע with El, “God,” and carries the sense “God sows.” The yield answers the name: the chain of response ends not in an abstract idea, but in the one named for sowing.
ALSO GROWS
zara: to sow
זָרַע
This verb gives the name Jezreel its sowing sense.
zera: seed, offspring
זֶרַע
The seed is what enters the earth’s answering chain and becomes harvest.
THE PATTERN
Life unfolds through a chain of response in which the earth receives what is given and brings forth its yield.
Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.THE THREAD
And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth; The Hebrew verb ענה (anah), “answer, respond,” links this verse with the repeated “hear” in the verse before it. The response moves from the LORD to the heavens, from the heavens to the earth, and here from the earth to its yield and Jezreel.
