This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Zion is redeemed through judgment: justice itself opens the way to release.

The verse speaks of a people being freed through justice, while those who return are brought into right alignment. Release and return belong together: what is bound can be freed, and what turns back can be set right.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The verse undoes the belief that judgment and deliverance must oppose each other; here judgment is the means by which Zion is redeemed.

תִּפָּדֶה

tippādeh

GROWS FROM

פדה

⁨פדה⁩ (pādāh) means to redeem or ransom, releasing someone from a claim or bondage.

The verse’s “shall be redeemed” comes from the root of ransom and release. That makes redemption an enacted freeing, not merely a change in how Zion is regarded.

ALSO GROWS

pādāh: to redeem, ransom

פָּדָה

This verb names the act behind the verse’s “shall be redeemed.”

yifdeh: he redeems, he will redeem

יִפְדֶּה

The same root names the LORD’s act of redeeming in Psalm 34:22.

מִשְׁפָּט

mishpāṭ

GROWS FROM

שפט

⁨שפט⁩ (shāphaṭ) means to judge or decide, bringing a matter under justice.

Mishpat is justice enacted through judgment and decision; it need not mean punishment alone. Here it is the means through which release comes, placing justice inside restoration.

ALSO GROWS

shāphaṭ: to judge, decide

שָׁפַט

This verb shows judgment as an action that determines what is just.

shōfēṭ: judge, one who judges

שֹׁפֵט

This branch names the one who carries out the deciding that mishpat describes.

צְדָקָה

tsĕdāqāh

GROWS FROM

צדק

⁨צדק⁩ (tsādaq) means to be right or just, to be in proper alignment.

“righteousness” in this verse is tsĕdāqāh. The root points to rightness and alignment. Zion’s returners are restored into that rightness, so the verse joins release through justice with a return to alignment.

ALSO GROWS

tsādaq: to be right, just

צָדַק

This verb gives the root’s basic sense of being in the right.

tsaddīq: just, righteous; one who is right

צַדִּיק

This related form describes someone characterized by the alignment named in the verse.

Restoration joins justice with right alignment, so judgment can bring the oppressed into freedom.

The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.
Psalm 103:6 · KJVJustice and rightness act together on behalf of those under oppression.
I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.
Micah 7:9 · KJVJudgment becomes the way the speaker is brought out into light and sees righteousness.
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Romans 3:26 · KJVThe verse holds justice and setting right together in the act of justification.
The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.
Psalm 34:22 · KJV

The Hebrew root ⁨פדה⁩ (pādāh, redeem or ransom) underlies “redeemeth” here and “shall be redeemed” in Isaiah. Psalm 34 names the LORD as the one who releases; Isaiah shows that release taking shape through judgment and righteousness.
