But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.
The analysis reads the King James wording.
King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The generosity you deliberately devise becomes the very ground on which you stand.
THE MEANING
The generous person gives openhandedness a shape through what he plans. The same Hebrew root names both the person and his generous acts, so generosity is woven into who he is. As you make generosity concrete, those acts become part of the ground beneath your life.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the fear that generosity weakens your footing: the verse says the generous person stands on the generous acts he devises.
THE ROOT
נָדִיב
nādîv
GROWS FROM
נדב
To volunteer or offer willingly; generosity that rises from a free will.
“liberal / liberal things” in this verse is nādîv. The person called “liberal” and the “liberal things” he devises share the root נדב. English separates the character from the acts, while Hebrew ties them together: his willing generosity becomes what he stands on.
ALSO GROWS
nedavah: A freewill offering
נְדָבָה
The gift is named for its willing source, showing that generosity begins in a person’s free choice.
nadav: To volunteer or offer willingly
נָדַב
This verbal branch shows the root as an act: the generous person is one who willingly gives.
יָעָץ
yāʿaṣ
GROWS FROM
יעץ
To counsel, advise, or deliberate.
“deviseth” in this verse is yāʿaṣ. The generous person does not merely happen to give; he thinks through and plans generous acts. The verse presents generosity as a considered way of life, with real actions to stand on.
ALSO GROWS
ʿēṣâ: Counsel or advice
עֵצָה
This noun shows the deliberation contained in “deviseth”: generosity takes shape through considered counsel.
yōʿēṣ: Counselor or adviser
יוֹעֵץ
This branch names one who offers counsel, echoing the deliberate, shaping work behind the generous person’s plans.
THE PATTERN
Willing generosity becomes a source of fruit and stability beyond the moment of giving.
The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the LORD, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the LORD had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.THE THREAD
The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the LORD, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the LORD had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses.Isaiah’s נָדִיב and Exodus’s willing offering share נדב, the root of voluntary giving. Here, what moves freely within a person becomes a shared contribution for the tent of meeting; Isaiah reveals that the giver’s own footing grows from this same root.
