This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The messengers of wholeness are not celebrating its arrival; they are weeping bitterly outside.

Peace’s messengers are outside, weeping bitterly; the promise of wholeness stands beside its absence. The open cry and the bitter grief meet in the same moment, showing that peace is more than a word spoken by its envoys, it is the wholeness they have not yet reached.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

Having peace-makers present does not mean peace has been secured; here, the messengers themselves are weeping.

שָׁלוֹם

shalom

GROWS FROM

שלם

š-l-m

To be whole or complete; to make intact or make good.

“peace” in this verse is shalom. Here, shalom carries the sense of wholeness, not simply a pause in conflict. Its root also gives words for being whole and for making good what is owed: the messengers are named for wholeness while their tears show it has not arrived.

ALSO GROWS

shalem: Whole, complete, intact.

שָׁלֵם

It makes the wholeness carried in shalom visible as a condition, not just a calm moment.

shillem: To repay, recompense, or make good.

שִׁלֵּם

The same root connects wholeness with making good what is unsettled, giving peace a dimension of repair.

Wholeness is absent when its name is spoken without its reality.

They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
Jeremiah 6:14 · KJVThe repeated word for peace cannot make an unhealed hurt whole.
Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
Luke 19:42 · KJVThe things belonging to peace are hidden from view, and grief reveals the wholeness still missing.
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
Romans 14:19 · KJVPeace takes lived form in what makes for it and builds another up.
They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
Jeremiah 6:14 · KJV

The word translated “peace” is shalom, carrying the sense of wholeness; Jeremiah places that word over a hurt that remains unhealed. Isaiah gives the parallel image of messengers named for wholeness who are weeping, revealing the distance between speaking peace and its presence.
