This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The Hebrew uses the same verb for loosening kings and opening gates: both their resistance and the barriers give way together.

The LORD holds Cyrus by the right hand and commissions him; nations yield, kings are made vulnerable, and gates stand open before him. The verse speaks now of power moving through an unexpected bearer and opening what rulers have kept shut. No locked boundary is presented as final.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that only a familiar or religiously approved person can carry divine authority breaks here: the verse calls Cyrus the LORD’s anointed.

אֲפַתֵּחַ

ʾăpattēaḥ

GROWS FROM

פתח

pāṯaḥ

To open or loosen.

“loose / open” in this verse is ʾăpattēaḥ. Hebrew uses the same verb for opening the kings’ loins and opening the gates, while English gives these actions different words. The shared root links the rulers’ loss of resistance with the opening of passage.

ALSO GROWS

petaḥ: An opening or doorway.

פֶּתַח

The doorway is the passage made when the gates open.

pātūaḥ: Open or opened.

פָּתוּחַ

This form names the opened state the gates remain in.

לִמְשִׁיחוֹ

limshīḥō

GROWS FROM

משח

māšaḥ

To smear or apply oil; to anoint.

“anointed” in this verse is limshīḥō. Mashiach is the person-form grown from the act of anointing, and here the title rests on Cyrus. The root brings the weight of a commission carried in the name: the LORD holds his hand as he opens passage and brings kings low.

ALSO GROWS

māšīaḥ: Anointed one.

מָשִׁיחַ

This is the title applied to Cyrus in the verse.

mišḥāh: Anointing or anointing oil.

מִשְׁחָה

This branch names the act and substance from which the title grows.

The LORD’s authority makes blocked passage open and restraints fall away.

And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
Isaiah 22:22 · KJVThe bearer of the key opens and shuts passage with an authority no one else can overturn.
And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
Acts 16:26 · KJVThe prison’s doors open as the prisoners’ restraints fall away.
I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
Revelation 3:8 · KJVAn open door stands before the reader beyond anyone else’s power to shut.
And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
Isaiah 22:22 · KJV

Isaiah 45:1 uses ⁨פתח⁩ (patach, to open) for both the kings’ loins and the gates; Isaiah 22:22 uses the same root for opening and shutting passage. The shared root reveals the bodily loosening and public access as one image of authority.
