What Does Isaiah 65:8 Mean in the King James?
Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The cluster is spared because blessing is still within it: damage does not mean that life is gone.
THE MEANING
The verse presents preservation as a response to what is still alive within the cluster: blessing is found in it, so the whole is not destroyed. You are addressed through this image: what still bears life is seen even when the surrounding whole is damaged.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that if something is damaged, all of it is worthless and must be discarded.
THE ROOT
בְּרָכָה
berakhah
GROWS FROM
ברך
b-r-k
To bless; this root is also associated with the knee.
“a blessing” in this verse is berakhah. The verse says the blessing is in the cluster, locating its life-bearing value within what might otherwise be discarded. The shared root with berekh, “knee,” gives blessing a bodily resonance as well as the sense of favor.
ALSO GROWS
barak: To bless
בָּרַךְ
The verb names the act carried by the blessing found within the cluster.
berekh: Knee
בֶּרֶךְ
The shared root connects blessing with a bodily posture, adding a physical resonance to the word.
barukh: Blessed
בָּרוּךְ
This form describes one who bears the same blessing that the verse finds within the cluster.
אַל־תַּשְׁחִיתֵהוּ
ʾal-tashḥîtēhû
GROWS FROM
שחת
sh-ḥ-t
To ruin, spoil, destroy, or corrupt.
“Destroy not” in this verse is ʾal-tashḥîtēhû. The root can describe ruin or corruption as well as destruction, so the command reaches beyond ending life to the spoiling of what remains. Here, the command to spare the cluster turns on the blessing still present within it.
ALSO GROWS
shachat: To ruin, destroy, or corrupt
שָׁחַת
This verb names the destructive act the speaker is told to stop.
mashchit: Destroyer
מַשְׁחִית
This noun names an agent of the ruin carried by the root, sharpening the force of the command.
THE PATTERN
A life-bearing remnant can keep a whole from being utterly destroyed.
Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.THE THREAD
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:Genesis 12:2 uses the same Hebrew word, berakhah, as Isaiah’s “blessing.” Isaiah finds blessing within a cluster and spares it; Genesis shows blessing as something a person can embody and extend.
