What Does Jeremiah 33:13 Mean in the King James?
In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the vale, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks pass again under the hands of him that telleth them, saith the LORD.

THE KEY
A return is complete when the flock passes again through the hands that count it.
THE MEANING
This verse places return across the whole map: mountain towns, valley towns, the south, Benjamin, Jerusalem’s surroundings, and Judah. The flocks pass there again beneath the shepherd’s hands, moving through familiar ground under attentive care. Restoration reaches ordinary life across every terrain.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
This undoes the belief that damage makes a place permanently uninhabitable: the flock passes there again.
THE ROOT
מוֹנֶה
mōneh
GROWS FROM
מנה
To count or number; also to appoint or allot.
“telleth” in this verse is mōneh. The root joins counting with appointing, so the returning flock is both numbered and placed in care. The verse’s image of restoration holds attention for what is gathered.
ALSO GROWS
mānāh: To count, number, or appoint.
מָנָה
This verb form shows how counting and assigning belong to the same root behind the one who counts the flock.
menāh: A portion or assigned share.
מְנָה
The root can also name what is allotted, linking the count to the care given to what has been gathered.
תַּעֲבֹרְנָה
taʿavōrnah
GROWS FROM
עבר
To cross over or pass through.
“pass again” in this verse is taʿavōrnah. The verb makes return a crossing: flocks move again across every named terrain. At the edge of that map stands יְרוּשָׁלַיִם (Yerushalayim, Jerusalem), whose name carries שָׁלוֹם (shalom, wholeness) with a doubled ending, an image of two wholenesses.
ALSO GROWS
ʿāvar: To cross or pass over.
עָבַר
This is the root’s basic movement, echoed as the flocks cross the land again.
maʿavār: A passage, crossing, or ford.
מַעֲבָר
The same consonants name a place of crossing, echoing the return’s movement through real terrain.
THE PATTERN
Restoration returns vulnerable life to movement across ordinary ground under attentive care.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.THE THREAD
And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd. The Hebrew translated “prepared” is וַיְמַן (vayman, appointed), from the same root מנה (mānāh, count or appoint) as מוֹנֶה (mōneh, one who counts) here. In Jeremiah the flock is counted; in Jonah shade is appointed, the same root lets attention take the shape of provision.
