This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Creation’s song rises as the plunderers approach, because the force that devastates Babylon is itself being overtaken.

Babylon’s fall is met by a sound larger than the city: heaven, earth, and everything within them sing. The plunderers come, but their arrival does not secure their power; the verse holds open a world where devastation does not have the last voice.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie is that a power built on plunder can remain ultimate and that devastation gets the final word. Here, all creation answers Babylon with song as that power is overtaken.

הַשֹּׁדְדִים

hashodedim

GROWS FROM

שדד

To devastate, plunder, or lay waste.

The Hebrew names the spoilers by the devastation they bring. The same root describes what is plundered, so the verse sets the plunderer and the devastation left behind against creation’s coming song.

ALSO GROWS

shādad: To plunder, devastate, lay waste.

שָׁדַד

This verb names the action carried by the spoilers in the verse.

shādûd: Plundered, devastated.

שָׁדוּד

The same root names the state left by the plunderer, giving the coming song the devastation itself as its backdrop.

יְרַנְּנוּ

yerannenu

GROWS FROM

רנן

To ring out in song or shout.

This word can carry both singing and a ringing shout; English “sing” can sound quieter than the Hebrew. Heaven, earth, and all within them give Babylon’s fall a public voice.

ALSO GROWS

rānan: To sing aloud or shout for joy.

רָנַן

This verb form shows the audible, ringing force within the verse’s “shall sing.”

rannenu: Sing out!; shout for joy!

רַנְּנוּ

This plural imperative uses the same root to call a group into a shared cry.

צָפוֹן

tsafon

GROWS FROM

צפן

To hide, conceal, or store away.

The Hebrew word for north shares its consonants with ⁨צָפַן⁩, “to hide or treasure away,” and ⁨צָפוּן⁩, “hidden.” The direction therefore carries a resonance of concealment as the spoilers approach.

ALSO GROWS

tsafan: To hide, conceal, or treasure away.

צָפַן

This verb shares the north word’s consonants and gives the direction a shade of hiddenness.

tsafun: Hidden, concealed, stored away.

צָפוּן

This form carries the same consonants and makes the connection between north and what is concealed audible.

When a devouring power falls, deliverance becomes public song, voiced by people and by heaven and earth.

Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
Exodus 15:1 · KJVThe end of an pursuing force becomes a song of deliverance.
Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.
Isaiah 44:23 · KJVHeaven, earth, and all within them join in song when deliverance is made known.
Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
Revelation 18:20 · KJVHeaven rejoices when the power that brought harm is answered.
Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
Revelation 18:20 · KJV

Revelation gives heaven a song over Babylon when the violence she dealt is answered. Jeremiah’s singing heavens and earth make that answer a cosmic voice, not a private victory.
