What Does Jeremiah 6:11 Mean in the King James?

Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The Hebrew repeats one word for “full”: the speaker is full of fury, while even the aged are full of days, so fullness itself cannot shelter anyone from the outpouring.

The verse speaks with the pressure of a force already full: what is held in can no longer be contained, and its release reaches children outside, young men gathered together, husbands and wives, and the aged. No stage of life or household bond sits outside the catastrophe the verse names.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It breaks the belief that age, marriage, youth, or childhood guarantees shelter when catastrophe sweeps through a community.

מָלֵאתִי

male'ti male yamim

GROWS FROM

מלא

To be full, fill, or bring to fullness.

The same root names the voice as full of fury and the elder as full of days. The verse places an eruption of judgment beside a life at its fullness; age does not stand outside its reach.

ALSO GROWS

male'ti: I am full; I have been filled.

מָלֵאתִי

This is the voice’s word for being full of fury.

male yamim: Full of days.

מְלֵא יָמִים

The same root describes the aged person whose full life is caught in the passage’s sweep.

חֲמַת

ḥămat

GROWS FROM

חמה

Heat or burning intensity; as a noun, fury or wrath.

The word for fury carries the sense of heat, making this more than a cool verdict: it is burning force. In this verse that force fills the speaker and is about to be poured across the community.

ALSO GROWS

ḥēmāh: Fury, wrath, or heat.

חֵמָה

This noun names the burning force the speaker carries.

ḥammāh: The sun; a word associated with heat.

חַמָּה

The shared word-shape keeps fury connected to the language of heat.

שְׁפֹךְ

shefokh

GROWS FROM

שפך

To pour out, spill, or shed.

“pour out” in this verse is shefokh. The verse gives fury a physical direction: what fills the speaker spills outward and falls on people. This root can also describe the shedding of blood, keeping the passage’s consequences concrete and severe.

ALSO GROWS

shafakh: To pour out, spill, or shed.

שָׁפַךְ

This verb names the movement from what is held inside to what is released upon others.

shefikhah: Outpouring or shedding.

שְׁפִיכָה

The noun form preserves the image of a force released in a damaging flow.

What fills the inner life presses toward outward expression when containment fails.

Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
Jeremiah 20:9 · KJVA burning force held inside reaches a point where it can no longer be kept in and becomes speech.
My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,
Psalm 39:3 · KJVInner heat becomes fire and then words, making expression the visible end of pressure.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Luke 6:45 · KJVWhat fills the heart comes out through the mouth, revealing the outward flow of inward abundance.
The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
Genesis 6:11 · KJV

Both verses use ⁨מלא⁩ (m-l-ʾ, “fill” or “be full”): Genesis says the earth is filled with violence, while Jeremiah uses the same root for the voice filled with fury and the elder full of days. The shared root gives fullness a communal scale, then turns it toward people whose lives are already full.
