What Does Job 10:10 Mean in the King James?
Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
Your body’s beginning is pictured as a transformation: what is poured out is made to hold together.
THE MEANING
Your body is pictured as moving from flow to form: substance is poured out, then made to hold together. Both movements belong to one image, so your embodied life appears as something formed through a hidden process. The question holds the mystery of how that becoming happens.
THE ROOT
תַּתִּיכֵנִי
tattikhēnî
GROWS FROM
נָתַךְ
nathak
To pour out, flow, or melt.
“poured me out” in this verse is tattikhēnî. The verb can describe liquid flowing down and metal melting, so “poured” carries the sense of substance in motion. Paired with “curdled,” it holds two stages together: flowing and taking form.
ALSO GROWS
nittakh: Used of rain in Exodus 9:33: “the rain was not poured upon the earth.”
נִתַּךְ
The same verb places liquid moving toward the earth beside the milk image in this verse.
lehatikh: Used of metal melting in a furnace in Ezekiel 22:20.
לְהַתִּיךְ
The root also describes material changing state, echoing the verse’s image of formation through transformation.
תַּקְפִיאֵנִי
taqpi'ēnî
GROWS FROM
קָפָא
qapha
To congeal, curdle, or become set.
“curdled me” in this verse is taqpi'ēnî. The root describes a liquid becoming settled or congealed. In Job, it completes the movement begun by “poured”: the image shifts from fluid substance to something that holds its shape.
ALSO GROWS
taqpi'ēnî: The verb describes the setting of milk into a cheese-like form.
תַּקְפִיאֵנִי
It gives the image its second motion: flowing substance becoming formed.
haqqophe'im: In Zephaniah 1:12, this form describes people “settled on their lees.”
הַקֹּפְאִים
The same root can picture stillness as material settling into a fixed state.
THE PATTERN
A living form takes shape through a hidden process that turns substance into a distinct body.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.THE THREAD
And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth. The Hebrew verb translated “poured” here is from the same root as Job’s “poured me out.” In Exodus it describes rain flowing onto the earth; in Job, the image turns that same motion toward the forming of a body.
