This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Being in the right does not guarantee that your head will rise; this verse lets alignment and humiliation exist in the same moment.

You can be honest about the woe attached to wrongdoing and still find that being in the right does not lift your head. Shame fills you, and your plea is for the LORD to see the affliction itself.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that being in the right guarantees relief, or that a lowered head proves you are in the wrong.

צָדַקְתִּי

ṣādaqtî

GROWS FROM

צדק

ṣ-d-q

To be right or just; alignment.

“righteous” in this verse is ṣādaqtî. The verse does not say that alignment makes pain vanish: even if you are right, your head remains lowered. The shared root puts rightness beside helplessness, so suffering is not proof that you are outside the right.

ALSO GROWS

ṣedeq: Rightness, justice, alignment.

צֶדֶק

It shows that the verse’s righteousness carries the sense of being in the right, even while affliction remains.

ṣaddiq: A person who is right or just.

צַדִּיק

This related form names the person who can still experience affliction, as Psalm 34:19 also says.

שְׂבַע קָלוֹן

śəvaʿ qālôn

GROWS FROM

קלל

q-l-l

To be slight or light; in some forms, to treat as insignificant or dishonor.

The phrase rendered “full of confusion” also carries the image of being sated with disgrace: shame has become what fills you, not just a passing uncertainty. The root connects what is slight with what is treated as contemptible, bringing the humiliation beneath the English word into view.

ALSO GROWS

qal: Light, slight, or insignificant.

קָל

This branch hints at how disgrace can make a person feel reduced or made small.

qəlālāh: A curse or condemnation.

קְלָלָה

It shows the root’s movement from being made light of toward dishonor and condemnation.

אֶשָּׂא רֹאשִׁי

’eśśāʾ rōʾšî

GROWS FROM

נשא

n-ś-ʾ

To lift, carry, or bear.

“lift up my head” in this verse is ’eśśāʾ rōʾšî. The verb of lifting belongs to the same family as carrying and bearing. Your head cannot rise under the weight of disgrace and affliction; Hebrew lets posture and burden meet in one verbal family.

ALSO GROWS

maśśāʾ: A burden or load.

מַשָּׂא

It brings the sense of carrying into the image of a head that cannot rise.

nāśîʾ: A leader or prince; one elevated.

נָשִׂיא

This related form carries the idea of elevation, sharpening the contrast with the head held low.

Being aligned does not make a person immune to affliction; pain can still be named and heard in God’s presence.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
Psalm 34:19 · KJVThe righteous still meet many afflictions, so suffering does not erase their right standing.
For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.
Psalm 22:24 · KJVAffliction is named plainly, and the cry of the afflicted is heard rather than hidden from.
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
2 Corinthians 4:8 · KJVThe verse holds real trouble and bewilderment together without pretending either one is absent.
But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
Psalm 3:3 · KJV

Job says he cannot lift his head; Psalm 3 calls the LORD the one who lifts it. The shared root ⁨נשא⁩ (nasa, lift or carry) turns head-lifting into an image of being raised by another, without denying that the affliction is real.
