What Does Job 12:22 Mean in the King James?
He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
Even deepest darkness is not sealed away; it is itself brought out into the light.
THE MEANING
The verse speaks now: darkness does not make what it covers unknowable. God uncovers what is hidden and brings even the deepest darkness into view; nothing needs to be added for it to be seen when the covering is lifted.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that what remains hidden, or feels like death-darkness, has become unreachable and can never be seen.
THE ROOT
מְגַלֶּה
megalleh
GROWS FROM
גלה
g-l-h
Uncover, disclose, reveal.
The Hebrew verb pictures uncovering what is already there, where “discovereth” can sound like merely finding something lost. Darkness covers the depth; it does not erase it.
ALSO GROWS
giluy: Disclosure, uncovering
גִּלּוּי
It names the act of making what was concealed visible.
galuy: Exposed, revealed
גָּלוּי
It describes the state of what has been uncovered.
חֹשֶׁךְ
choshekh
GROWS FROM
חשך
ḥ-sh-k
Darken; the same consonants also occur in a verb meaning to withhold or keep back.
The Hebrew consonants carry both the sense of darkness and a related sense of withholding. What is in darkness is held from sight, not erased.
ALSO GROWS
ḥāshakh: To grow dark or become dim
חָשַׁךְ
It gives darkness as a condition that obscures what is present.
ḥāśakh: To withhold, keep back
חָשַׂךְ
It echoes the image of what darkness keeps beyond view until it is uncovered.
וַיּוֹצֵא
wayyotse
GROWS FROM
יצא
y-ts-ʾ
Go out, emerge; in this form, cause to go out or bring forth.
“bringeth out” in this verse is wayyotse. The verb gives the verse a movement: he causes what is hidden to come out. The deepest darkness itself is brought into the light, so the light exposes it rather than merely shining around it.
ALSO GROWS
yatsa: To go out, emerge
יָצָא
It supplies the movement from concealment toward visibility.
motsa: Exit, outlet, issue
מוֹצָא
It names a way out or what comes forth, echoing the verse’s movement into the light.
THE PATTERN
What is hidden in darkness remains within reach of God and can be brought into view.
Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.THE THREAD
He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.Job’s Hebrew גלה (galah, uncover or reveal) is echoed by Daniel’s closely related Aramaic גָּלֵא (gālēʾ, reveal). Daniel joins that revealing to deep and hidden things in darkness, making the shared image explicit: what is concealed is brought into view.
