What Does Job 19:1 Mean in the King James?
Then Job answered and said,

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The verse names Job’s response twice: his answer becomes present as speech.
THE MEANING
An answer gathers what has reached you into words, and saying gives those words a voice. The verse holds that moment in view before Job’s answer itself appears. Your voice is present at that threshold.
THE ROOT
וַיַּעַן
wayyaʿan
GROWS FROM
ענה
ʿ-n-h
Answer, respond
“answered” in this verse is wayyaʿan. The root ענה (ʿ-n-h, answer/respond) makes this a reply within an exchange, not just speech. The same consonants also appear in עָנָה (ʿānāh, afflict or humble), a distinct verb whose relationship to “answer” is uncertain; in Job, that sound echo sits beside a voice speaking from affliction.
ALSO GROWS
maʿaneh: Answer, reply
מַעֲנֶה
The related noun makes the response itself tangible: Job’s answer is something his voice brings into the exchange.
ʿānāh: Afflict, humble
עָנָה
This distinct verb has the same consonants; its possible echo with “answer” is suggestive here, though the words should not be treated as certainly derived from one another.
THE PATTERN
Scripture marks a reply as an act that gives a response its voice.
And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee. And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.THE THREAD
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,Job 19:1 uses וַיַּעַן (wayyaʿan, “and he answered”), from ענה (ʿ-n-h, “answer/respond”). In Job 38:1, the same root names the LORD’s answer, returning the language of response with a changed speaker.
