This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The danger begins when gold is given the name of the place where you feel secure.

This verse names the moment wealth stops being a resource and becomes the place you expect to keep you safe. Gold receives the words “my hope” and “my confidence,” as though something accumulated could hold your security. The verse speaks now wherever what you possess has been asked to carry that weight.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

“I am secure because I possess enough” is the belief this verse undoes.

מִבְטָחִי

mivtaḥi

GROWS FROM

בטח

To trust or feel secure.

The word ⁨מִבְטָחִי⁩ (mivtaḥi, “my confidence”) grows from ⁨בָּטַח⁩ (bāṭaḥ, “to trust, feel secure”). The root joins the inward sense of security to the act of placing trust: Job names what gold is being asked to do.

ALSO GROWS

bāṭaḥ: To trust, feel secure.

בָּטַח

This verb is the seed beneath “my confidence,” showing that the verse is about where trust is placed.

bōṭēaḥ: Trusting; one who relies.

בֹּטֵחַ

Proverbs uses this same root for the person trusting in riches, making explicit the reliance Job describes.

Whatever receives the heart’s trust becomes its refuge, but riches cannot bear that weight.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.
Psalm 62:10 · KJVThe verse separates increasing riches from the heart’s trust, showing that possession alone cannot be its refuge.
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
Proverbs 11:28 · KJVIt names the collapse that follows when riches are treated as the source of security.
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
1 Timothy 6:17 · KJVIt exposes riches as uncertain ground for trust and points to the living God as its secure object.
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
Proverbs 11:28 · KJV

“Trusteth” here comes from the same Hebrew root ⁨בטח⁩ (bāṭaḥ, “to trust, feel secure”) as Job’s “confidence.” Job names gold as the object of that trust; Proverbs shows what happens when riches are made to carry it.
