This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Morning grips the earth by its wings and shakes the wicked loose.

Morning reaches the earth’s farthest edges, as though they were wings, and the wicked are shaken out. The question places you before a force beyond your command: dawn grasps the world at its outer limit and dislodges what clings there.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The verse unsettles the belief that wickedness is woven permanently into the world: morning reaches its edges and shakes the wicked loose.

בְּכַנְפוֹת

bekanfot

GROWS FROM

כ־נ־ף

Wing; by extension, an edge or extremity.

The phrase translated “ends” is literally “wings,” giving the earth far-reaching edges that morning can seize. Dawn’s reach becomes tactile: it catches the world at its outermost folds as it shakes the wicked from it.

ALSO GROWS

kānāf: Wing

כָּנָף

The concrete image behind “the wings of the earth” is something morning can grasp.

kenaf: Skirt or edge of a garment; the same word appears in Ruth 3:9.

כְּנַף

A garment’s edge can be spread or grasped, deepening the image of dawn taking hold of the earth’s farthest folds.

וְיִנָּעֲרוּ

ve-yinnaʿaru

GROWS FROM

נ־ע־ר

To shake, shake loose, or shake off.

“shaken out” in this verse is ve-yinnaʿaru. The verb pictures the wicked as something shaken free from the earth. The same root can describe shaking oneself loose, so the image carries release as well as removal.

ALSO GROWS

hitnaʿari: Shake yourself free (Isaiah 52:2).

הִתְנַעֲרִי

Jerusalem shakes off dust and loosens her bonds, using the same root for release from what clings.

noʿer: Shaking one’s hands free from holding a bribe (Isaiah 33:15).

נֹעֵר

The verb can describe hands letting go of what they hold, echoing the wicked being shaken loose from the earth.

Dawn reaches what is hidden and dislodges what belongs to darkness.

And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
Job 38:15 · KJVThe same speech pictures the wicked losing their light and their power as morning takes its place.
The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens.
Psalm 104:22 · KJVThe rising sun changes what can move openly, drawing the night creatures back into their dens.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
Ephesians 5:13 · KJVLight brings what is hidden into view, making exposure part of its work.
Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.
Isaiah 52:2 · KJV

Both verses use ⁨נָעַר⁩ (naʿar), “to shake loose”: here morning shakes the wicked from the earth; there Jerusalem shakes dust from herself and loosens her bonds. Jerusalem’s name, ⁨יְרוּשָׁלַיִם⁩ (Yerushalayim), carries the image of twofold wholeness, and the shared verb makes release the motion between them.
