What Does Job 9:12 Mean in the King James?
Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The verb translated “taketh away” pictures a sudden seizure, and the questions that follow admit no one can turn it back.
THE MEANING
You meet an act of taking that no one can restrain or call to account. “What doest thou?” remains a question without an answer in the verse, naming the distance between witnessing an act and being able to stop it.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that human objection can always halt an act or compel an answer from the one acting.
THE ROOT
יַחְטֹף
yaḥṭōp̄
GROWS FROM
חטף
To snatch, seize, or carry off suddenly.
“taketh away” in this verse is yaḥṭōp̄. יַחְטֹף means “he snatches” or “he seizes”; חטף carries the force of an abrupt taking. That sharpness matters here: the next question is not who can negotiate the taking, but who can turn it back.
ALSO GROWS
waḥaṭap̄tem: “And you shall seize” or “catch.”
וַחֲטַפְתֶּם
In Judges 21:21 this verb describes men seizing wives; its coercive force shows how חטף can name a taking by force.
ḥāṭûp̄: Seized or captured; a passive form from the same root.
חָטוּף
The root also names the one acted upon, the person or thing seized, so the word holds both the sudden grasp and its result.
THE PATTERN
The verse presents divine action as beyond human power to restrain or call to account.
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?THE THREAD
And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.Job’s יַחְטֹף and Judges’ וַחֲטַפְתֶּם share the root חטף. In Judges the verb names a coercive seizure; Job’s use carries the same abrupt force in describing a taking no one can turn back.
