This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Distance and disconnection can leave a settled place without anyone positioned to rescue it.

When distance and disconnection cut a community off from others, no rescuer is within reach. A place can still be built up and inhabited without that making it secure.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

Being established means being protected; the verse shows that settlement and security are not the same.

מַצִּיל

matsil

GROWS FROM

נצל

natsal

To snatch away, rescue, or deliver.

Here a deliverer is someone who pulls another out of danger. The root connects the rescuer to the act of rescue, making the absence concrete: no one is there to pull the community out of its exposure.

ALSO GROWS

hitsil: He rescued or delivered.

הִצִּיל

The same root names the action the missing deliverer would perform: pulling someone out of danger.

hatsileni: Deliver me.

הַצִּילֵנִי

The root becomes a direct cry for the rescue that this verse says is absent.

דָּבָר

davar

GROWS FROM

דבר

d-b-r

Speech; the related noun carries the sense of word, matter, or affair.

“business” in this verse is davar. The Hebrew word can mean a word, matter, or affair, while the verse uses it for dealings with other people. The isolation is therefore relational as well as geographic: there is no shared matter connecting this place to anyone.

ALSO GROWS

davar: Word, matter, or affair.

דָּבָר

This is the noun in the verse: there is no matter or dealing linking the community to another person.

dibber: He spoke.

דִּבֵּר

The verb keeps speech within the same word-family as the matter or dealings that bind people to one another.

Rescue depends on someone being connected and close enough to reach the person who needs help.

For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
Ecclesiastes 4:10 · KJVThe verse names the danger of being alone as having no one there to lift you.
Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
Job 29:12 · KJVThe deliverer is the person who reaches someone who otherwise has no helper.
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2 · KJVSharing another person’s burden closes the gap that leaves someone alone with it.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
Psalm 91:3 · KJV

Both verses share ⁨נצל⁩ (natsal), meaning to snatch away or rescue. Judges names the absence of a rescuer; Psalm 91 uses the same root for deliverance from a snare.
