This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Being “before the LORD” makes the route visible to God; a human blessing alone does not prove that the route is approved.

Your way is before the LORD: the course you take remains in divine sight. “Go in peace” speaks wholeness over that course, but the priest’s words do not themselves certify it as aligned. Being seen holds both comfort and accountability.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

If a religious authority blesses my path, God must approve it.

שָׁלוֹם

shalom

GROWS FROM

שלם

š-l-m

To be complete, whole, or intact.

“peace” in this verse is shalom. Shalom (⁨שָׁלוֹם⁩, wholeness) speaks of more than a quiet feeling; it names a state of completeness. Spoken over a route, it expresses a wish for wholeness without, by itself, proving that the route is whole.

ALSO GROWS

shalem: Whole, complete, intact.

שָׁלֵם

This branch makes the depth of “peace” concrete: the wish is for a life or course made whole.

shillem: To repay, recompense, or make good.

שִׁלֵּם

The same root can describe making something complete or setting an account right, so wholeness reaches beyond calm to what is put in order.

דֶּרֶךְ

derekh

GROWS FROM

דרך

d-r-k

To tread or step; by extension, a traveled way or course.

Derekh (⁨דֶּרֶךְ⁩, way) grows from the image of treading a route. The line pairs “way” with “wherein ye go,” placing the blessing over an actual course of movement, not merely an intention.

ALSO GROWS

darakh: To tread or step.

דָּרַךְ

This verb shows the bodily action beneath “way”: a route is made by steps taken along it.

midrakh: A place for treading; a foothold.

מִדְרָךְ

This related form makes the route tangible as ground underfoot, the path a person actually takes.

A path can be fully within God’s sight while human certainty about it remains unreliable.

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
Psalm 139:3 · KJVThe speaker’s ways are already known within God’s encompassing sight.
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Proverbs 14:12 · KJVA path that feels right to its traveler can still lead somewhere destructive.
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Hebrews 4:13 · KJVNothing in a person’s course is hidden from the one whose sight reaches everything.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:6 · KJV

The word “ways” in both verses is derekh (⁨דֶּרֶךְ⁩, a traveled way), from ⁨דרך⁩ (d-r-k, to tread). Proverbs opens the image further: the path before the LORD becomes a path he directs when he is acknowledged in it.
