What Does Judges 3:25 Mean in the King James?
And they tarried till they were ashamed: and, behold, he opened not the doors of the parlour; therefore they took a key, and opened them: and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.

THE KEY
The Hebrew word for “key” grows from the same root as “opened”: the key is literally an opener.
THE MEANING
The attendants wait at the closed door until the delay itself becomes humiliating. When the key turns, their lord is already dead on the floor; opening the door changes what they know, not what has happened.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The attendants take the delay for privacy, as if their lord is merely occupied. The opened door reveals that this assumption is false.
THE ROOT
מַפְתֵּחַ
maphtēaḥ
GROWS FROM
פתח
To open; to open up.
מַפְתֵּחַ (maphtēaḥ, “key”) grows from פתח (p-t-ḥ), the same root heard in וַיִּפְתְּחוּ (wayyiftəḥū, “they opened”). The key and the act of opening belong to one word-family: the tool is named by what it does, and the opened door exposes the death behind it.
ALSO GROWS
wayyiftəḥū: They opened.
וַיִּפְתְּחוּ
This verb in the verse repeats the key’s root, linking the object directly to the act that reveals what is inside.
petaḥ: An opening or entrance.
פֶּתַח
This branch names the passageway itself, joining the key, the opening, and the threshold in one root-family.
THE PATTERN
An opening makes visible what a closed boundary has concealed.
And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.THE THREAD
And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.In Judges, מַפְתֵּחַ (maphtēaḥ, “key”) and וַיִּפְתְּחוּ (wayyiftəḥū, “they opened”) share the root פתח (p-t-ḥ). Isaiah places a key beside the same opening root, making the connection between key and opened door audible in both verses.
