This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The Hebrew verb for breaking the pitchers also means scattering, so hidden light emerges through the vessel’s dispersal.

The verse places you at a threshold where a newly set watch meets trumpet blasts and shattered pitchers. Already-held light comes into view as the vessels break, so concealment and disclosure meet in one movement.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that light must be added before it can appear is overturned: the light is already held within, and the broken vessel exposes it.

וַיְנַפְּצוּ

vayenappetsu

GROWS FROM

נפץ

To shatter, dash apart, or scatter.

“brake” in this verse is vayenappetsu. The Hebrew verb carries the force of shattering and dispersal. The pitchers’ dispersal brings the already-present torchlight into view in the next verse: breaking uncovers the light.

ALSO GROWS

nafetsah: Was spread abroad (Genesis 9:19).

נָפְצָה

The same root describes the earth spreading out; its sense of scattering reaches beyond a single broken object.

tenappetsēm: Dash them in pieces (Psalm 2:9).

תְּנַפְּצֵם

The same root names the violent shattering of a potter’s vessel, bringing out the force in the pitchers’ breaking.

הָאַשְׁמֹרֶת

ha’ashmoret

GROWS FROM

שׁמר

To guard, keep, or watch over.

“watch / watchers” in this verse is ha’ashmoret. The word for the middle watch and the word for its watchers share the root ⁨שׁמר⁩. Hebrew makes vigilance both a span of time and the work of guarding, placing the pitchers’ breaking at the instant that guard duty is newly set.

ALSO GROWS

shomer: Keeper or guard.

שֹׁמֵר

The men being set on watch are named by the same root that describes their task.

mishmeret: Watch, charge, or guard duty.

מִשְׁמֶרֶת

This branch names the guarded interval, linking the time of the scene to the act of watching.

A vessel’s breaking can disclose or release what it already contains.

And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.
Judges 7:20 · KJVThe lamps come into view after the pitchers break; the light is already present before the vessel shatters.
And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
Mark 14:3 · KJVThe broken alabaster box releases the ointment it holds, making its fragrance and value known.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
Psalm 2:9 · KJV

The verb translated “dash them in pieces” is ⁨תְּנַפְּצֵם⁩ (tenappetsēm), from ⁨נָפַץ⁩ (naphats), the same root translated “brake” for the pitchers in Judges. Psalm’s potter’s vessel makes the shattering force of this shared root plain.
