What Does Leviticus 16:27 Mean in the King James?
And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The verse puts covering and removal in the same frame: blood goes into the holy place while the offering’s remains go outside the camp.
THE MEANING
This verse holds two movements in front of you: the blood is brought into the holy place for covering, and the animal’s skins, flesh, and dung are carried outside the camp and burned. The offering for the missing does not leave its remains within the shared center; the verse names both what is brought near and what is taken away.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the idea that covering leaves the residue in place: here the remains are named and carried outside.
THE ROOT
חַטָּאת
ḥaṭṭāʾt
GROWS FROM
חטא
ḥata
To miss, err, or fall short of the mark.
“sin offering” in this verse is ḥaṭṭāʾt. The Hebrew word can name both the missing and the offering associated with it, keeping them in one word-family. The English phrase can sound like separate ideas; the root connects the offering directly to the missing it addresses.
ALSO GROWS
ḥata: To miss or err.
חָטָא
This verb names the act of missing that stands behind the offering’s name.
chet: A miss or offense.
חֵטְא
This noun keeps the missing itself visible within the same root-family.
לְכַפֵּר
ləkhapper
GROWS FROM
כפר
kaphar
To cover.
The word rendered “atonement” carries the sense of covering. The verse places that covering beside a concrete removal: blood is brought into the set-apart place, while the skins, flesh, and dung are taken outside and burned.
ALSO GROWS
kippurim: Coverings; atonements.
כִּפּוּרִים
This form preserves the same covering-root in the language of atonement.
kofer: Ransom; a covering price.
כֹּפֶר
This branch shows the root’s covering sense extending to a price that shields or preserves.
THE PATTERN
The rite pairs blood carried inward for covering with the offering’s remains carried outward from the camp.
Even the whole bullock shall he carry forth without the camp unto a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn him on the wood with fire: where the ashes are poured out shall he be burnt. For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.THE THREAD
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. This verse uses the same root כפר (kaphar, cover) and explicitly joins the covering to blood. It makes the blood brought into the holy place in Leviticus 16:27 the central action of the verse.
