What Does Luke 15:28 Mean in the King James?
And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.

THE KEY
In Greek, the son’s refusal to enter and the father’s coming out are opposite compounds of the same verb: one root meets the closed threshold from both sides.
THE MEANING
You can be angry and unwilling to enter, and still be met where you stand. The father comes out and urges you; his appeal reaches across the distance without forcing you through the door.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
“If I remain outside, I am beyond the father’s reach” is undone here: he crosses the threshold to speak with the angry son.
THE ROOT
εἰσελθεῖν
eiselthein
GROWS FROM
ἔρχομαι
erchomai
to come, go, or arrive
“go in” in this verse is eiselthein. The Greek uses related forms of ἔρχομαι (erchomai, come/go) for both the son’s inward refusal and the father’s outward approach. The sentence places them at the same threshold: one unwilling to cross it, the other crossing toward him.
ALSO GROWS
eiserchomai: To enter or come in.
εἰσέρχομαι
The son’s refused movement inward is built from the same root as the father’s movement outward.
exerchomai: To go or come out.
ἐξέρχομαι
This is the verb family behind the father’s “came out”; the prefix reverses the direction while the root stays the same.
παρεκάλει
parekalei
GROWS FROM
καλέω
kaleō
to call, summon, or invite; with παρά (para, near or beside), the compound means to urge or appeal
“intreated” in this verse is parekalei. παρεκάλει (parekalei, urged/appealed) is in a form that presents the father’s appeal as continuing. The root carries calling and invitation, so his movement outward becomes speech that seeks relationship without forcing entry.
ALSO GROWS
paraklēsis: Appeal, encouragement, or comfort.
παράκλησις
This related word holds both urging and consolation, shades present in a father who appeals to his son.
ekklēsia: An assembly or gathering.
ἐκκλησία
This word belongs to the same calling family; the father’s appeal reaches toward shared belonging.
THE PATTERN
Love moves toward the one who is hidden or standing outside, opening a way back into relationship.
And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.THE THREAD
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.The Greek verb behind “intreated” here appears as “beseech” in this verse: God appeals through the messengers. That shared verb lets the father’s approach sound like an appeal toward restored relationship, carrying urgency without describing force.
